Noni Research

Pioneering research on Noni has been done by the University of Hawaii, Keio University, Japan, Osaka City University, Japan, University of Antwerp, Belgium, and Rutgers University, NJ. U.S.A

These initial studied indicate the potential anti cancer activity of Noni fruit in laboratory animals , and the possible mechanism of its action. Among mice that had been implanted with Lewis lung carcinoma, researchers showed that by using Noni juice at a dose of 15mg.

Per mouse, there was significant increase in lifespan. Of 22 mice treated with Noni, nine survived for more than 50 days, whereas, of the control mice( that had not been treated with Noni), all had succumbed within 14 days. This cancer related study of Noni fruit juice inspired by the anecdotal evidence among Hawaiian natives of successful self- treatment of various forms of cancer.

Based on experimental data. It was proposed that the fruits of Noni might suppress the growth of tumours by stimulating the immune system. An anthraquinone compound, damnacanthal, isolated from roots of Noni has been found to inhibit ras gene (so called oncegene or cancer causing gene) of tumour cells (activated ras function produces a continuous signal for cancer cells for rapid growth and spread)

. The additional possible bioactive components recently isolated from the Noni fruit include glycosides i.e. rutin and asperulosidic acid, and a trisaccharide fatty acid ester. All of this supports what the Hawaiian kahunas ( healers) have been saying all along .
